THE PROJECT

Built in the 1920s, the 10-storey Orion House building in Melbourne's busy city centre required a complete renovation, inside and out.

Externally, the existing paintwork was old and tired and there was evidence of some spalling in the reinforced concrete. Emer provided a full refurbishment solution for the façade, from concrete repair and curing to façade protection.

THE SOLUTION

A complete Emer system was specified, incorporating Emer-Patch HAR, Emer-Patch Repair 40, Emer-Clad Solvent Based Primer and Emer-Clad Façade, with Fosroc Concure A99 used as the curing compound.

Often in repair applications that require overcoating, the use of curing compounds can be problematic as the curing compound typically acts as a bond breaker preventing a lasting bond with the top coat. Fosroc Concure A99, however is fully compatible with the Emer-Clad Facade system, ensuring a strong, durable bond, and lasting protection.

To ensure best practice concrete repair techniques were followed, the applicators were given hands-on training and provided with ongoing technical support throughout the project.

The entire application process was completed on ropes, avoiding the time, cost and paperwork required for scaffolding and platforms.

Emer representatives worked closely with applicators to ensure a consistent finish, ensuring that repaired patches would be indistinguishable from the rest of the façade.

THE BENEFITS

  • Well suited to small, localised patch repairs, Emer-Patch Repair 40 is shrinkage compensated providing long term dimensional stability and durability.
  • Emer-Clad Facade is highly flexible and can accommodate movement of pre-existing cracks of up to 1mm.
  • Emer-Clad Facade is resistant to UV light, weathering, mould and mildew.
  • Emer-Clad Facade can be tinted to any colour, offering a total colour solution.
  • Emer-Clad Facade is low VOC.

TESTIMONIAL

"The quality of the products is second to none. We would definitely use Emer again, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Emer brand to others."
